The Developmental Assets Framework: Understand, Identify, and Track Development in Critical Areas
The Search Institute (Minnesota, USA), founded in 1958, works with organizations, schools, and community coalitions to solve critical challenges in the lives of young people.
They have created a framework of Developmental Assets, that identifies skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that fosters young people’s growth towards becoming successful and contributing adults. This framework outlines building blocks for healthy development, categorized into areas such as support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time, commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and positive identity. Unique developmental asset lists are available for different age groups and languages. They offer a downloadable list of the assets, a survey to identify priorities and track progress, a tool to work with parents, a workshop, and a store to access materials related to this framework.
